The Blessing of the Cord of St. Francis
Roman Ritual

The Cord of St. Francis has long been a powerful devotion in the Church; indeed, St. Dominic himself, when he met St. Francis, asked him for the cord with which he bound his tunic, and wore it under his own habit until the end of his days as a sign of his devotion to the poorest of the poor. While the Archconfraternity of the Cord of St. Francis, formerly a vast organization, appears to be completely defunct, the devotion is still fruitful and powerful, and can still be pursued by anyone with an interest. This little booklet gives a summary of the history of the cord; how the devotion works; and the ceremony from the Roman Ritual on how it is blessed and imposed. While this is all very simple, it is a deep method of devotion to St. Francis of Assisi, and an aid in pursuing his virtues.
Praise be to Christ the King!
