To Delve into the Water
Donald P. Goodman III
Version 1.0,
To delve into the water is the way to live,
and passing through the sea the path to perfect peace;
though wildly whipping waves may rocky wayfare give,
such surging storms must soon, in surfeit, slow and cease.
For if we fail to face the sea for fear of storms,
or for the lowly loves still left for ling'rers here,
we cannot clear the crud, uncov'ring cleanly forms,
nor 'scape from slavish slogging, nor be free from fear.
For sea, though strong and strident, still the sea must be,
and only water washes filth and wipes the tear;
From side to other side, o'er storm and surges, see:
the promis'd land of light and love and liberty.
