The Vast Ripostes
Donald P. Goodman III
Version 1.0,
From constant, endless struggle comes eternal peace,
serenity as ocean fights against the shore;
the violence of waves can perfect calm release,
tranquillity arise from timeless, bloody war.
For what but ceaseless conflict tears apart the coasts,
beats rocks to grains of sand along the winding beach,
as endless roaring deepest Ocean's power boasts,
reminds the land how far profundity can reach?
My calm serenity doth wax in battle's noise
on islands built by sea and shoreline's vast ripostes;
for all the armies each without a rest deploys
fight to the death, and by their deaths bring endless joy.
